Welcome to another episode of the Big Money Stylist podcast.
Today, we’re diving deep into the world of Licensed NBR Artist Sarah Dolin with NBR Educator Sarah Stephenson as your host.
They’re not just your ordinary hair stylists; they’re on a mission to share their personal journeys and show us that success in the hair industry is about much more than just styling hair—it’s about perseverance, learning, and self-care.
The Burnout Blues and Rediscovering Passion
Sarah Dolin, from St. Louis, Missouri, kicks off the conversation by sharing her story of feeling the burnout and dissatisfaction that many of us can relate to after years in our fields.
Imagine dedicating 17 years to your craft only to find yourself at a crossroads, questioning your entire career choice.
That’s exactly where Sarah found herself.
But here’s the exciting part: Instead of throwing in the towel, she embarked on a transformative journey.
She decided to take a leap of faith by attending an NBR extension class in sunny California. Faced with doubts and fears, she pushed through, soaking up every bit of knowledge like a sponge.
It was this decision that reignited her passion for hairstyling and transformed her business into something truly remarkable.
Taking Control and Prioritizing Self-Care
One of the pivotal moments in Sarah’s journey was the realization that she needed to take control of her schedule and start putting herself first.
How many of us struggle with saying “no” to clients or feel guilty about prioritizing self-care? Sarah knows the feeling all too well.
By gradually reducing her working hours, Sarah was able to strike that elusive work-life balance.
This shift not only improved her personal life but also supercharged her performance as a stylist. It’s a lesson we can all learn from—taking care of ourselves allows us to serve our clients better.
The Never-Ending Pursuit of Knowledge
Sarah Stephenson, our NBR Educator, stresses the importance of continuous learning and personal growth.
Even though she was already a successful stylist, she made the choice to attend classes at the Academy and BMS Con One.
She explains that, while the core method remains constant, her capacity to absorb and implement information has evolved over time.
By staying committed to learning and enhancing her skills, she ensures her clients receive nothing but the best.
Embracing Change and Setting Goals
Sarah Dolin’s journey doesn’t stop at rediscovering her passion.
She took the incredible step of opening her own salon in 2020—a year filled with challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
She faced obstacles head-on and turned her dream into a reality.
And guess what? She’s not stopping there.
Sarah’s bubbling with excitement about her future plans, which include creating educational videos to elevate the quality of extensions in her area.
Her ultimate goal? Ensuring every client has a positive experience and receives the best hair services possible.
Sarah’s story is a testament to the fact that success in any industry requires perseverance, a thirst for learning, and the courage to embrace change.
The two show us the power of taking control of our schedules, prioritizing self-care, and setting meaningful goals, and their experiences serve as an inspiration for anyone who has faced burnout, helping us realize that our passions can reignite, and our careers can flourish.
So, fellow hair enthusiasts, let’s take a page from their book.
Let’s step into our own journeys with renewed vigor and a commitment to continual growth.
After all, life is too short not to be passionate about what we do, and Sarah and Sarah have shown us that it’s never too late to rediscover that passion.
